If On Fire! is a quintessential hard rock album, Beyond Belief is Number 2 in this category. This one really introduced me to Petra. The songs are extremely well written, a little less spontaneous and more sophisticated than those on previous two albums. Yet the energy stays the same, right from the intro of "Armed And Dangerous".
Perhaps this is the most representative Petra album—I can't think of a song off this record (except maybe "What's In A Name") that a Petra fan could dislike. The ballads, "Love" and "Prayer" are among Petra's best and the rockers gallery is second only to that on On Fire!. The lyrics are also classic Petra, my favorites being "I Am On The Rock" and "Seen And Not Heard". And there's also the title song, a must have for all fans.
All in all, an essential Christian rock album, great for everyone who likes ROCKING FOR JESUS.
