the tunes:
This is one many Petheads, like myself, have been waiting for. If you saw the Farewell Tour, the songlist is very familiar. The only exception is that a few songs are cut out to a mere one hour and four minute show.
To be positive, I will get the few gripes out of the way. At the heart, the concert to disc is simply too short. Petra's Captured in Time & Space (before the CD edit) clocked in at just under 90 minutes. I wanted more.
My only other complaint is that the sound is a bit too raw. Unlike Captured, the guitar and drum sounds do not have a clean sound. Also, it is much harder to hear the background vocals.
Now for the positive. First and foremost, this is a great song list (I only wish they had included John's version of "Judas' Kiss" and "Lord I Lift Your Name on High"). The tracks really encompasses the best hits since Back To The Street. Also, the live versions really add a punch to great songs like "Sight Unseen", "I Am On The Rock", "Right Place", "Beyond Belief", and "He Came, He Saw, He Conquered" (fortunately, there were no songs from God Fixation).
Of course, what fans will really look forward to is the appearances by Greg X. Volz for the acoustic set, and John Lawry for his signature solo (I wish they had included Louie for a Farewell performance).
So buy it, listen to it, and savor it. Then wait for the DVD due out early next year.
