Petra: Kevin's Concert Review
August 20th, 2005 Fogfest 2005 Mansfield, Ohio I've been a fan of Petra for many years and when I heard they were going to retire at the end of the year, I knew I had to see them live. Luckly, they were going to an area in Ohio only 3 hours from where I live. The venue was called Fogfest 2005. Petra, (I felt) was the main event for the day. Other bands playing that day included, Jump 5, Zoe Girl, Krystal Meyers, Sonic Flood, Building 429 (whose lead singer reminded me of a younger John Schlitt) and a few other bands. Petra was the 2nd to last band to perform that day and had the longest time slot to play (1 & 1/2 hrs.) They came on around 8:30pm at night. I stood directly in front of the stage. After Bob Hartman and Greg Bailey did a few sound checks, John came on stage and they went right into "Test of Time", followed by "All About Who You Know". They did some praise songs then after Bob said they were going to do some of their older work. "It Is Finished", "Rose Colored...", "This Means War!" and "Judas' Kiss" were my personal favorites for the night. Bob's guitar work was amazing!!! After "Jekyll and Hyde" they did a lot from the early 90's and such. After they finished their last song and walked off stage, the crowd and myself were screaming "One More Song" and "Petra". They came back on and did "He Came, He Saw, He Conquered". They were the only band to get an encore call. They were BY FAR the LOUDEST band there. I estimated about 1,000 people at the festival when they were on stage. If you never saw Petra live, I suggest you do so. The experience was awesome. I also was able to get a frisbee signed by all the band members. For myself, this was the highlight event of the year. They sounded and played better than I ever could imagine. No album can beat hearing them live in concert.
